MOUNT POCONO – The former St. Mary’s church on Fairview Avenue in Mount Pocono is getting a new roof this summer. The work is part of a two-year renovation plan by American Legion Post 903, currently located in Tannersville.
The Post acquired the rectory and church in 2020. Their plan calls for renovating both buildings, turning the church into a veterans museum. The basement of the church will become a hall for lease, as well as a place where local veterans can host meetings.
The rectory will become the home of Post 903, as well as the Monroe County Joint Veterans Honor Guard, with office space for various local veterans organizations. The Post is soliciting help from the public to fund the rebuilding of these historic properties to help promote, assist, and establish a long-needed local Veterans Center in Monroe County.
