Pocono Mountain School District Names Top 2022 Graduates

Graduation Ceremonies Set for This Weekend

SWIFTWATER —The Pocono Mountain School District has named the valedictorian and salutatorian members of the classes of 2022 for Pocono Mountain East and Pocono Mountain West High Schools.

The top graduate for the Cardinals 2022 class is Mount Pocono’s Grace Gazza, daughter of Michael and Deborah Gazza.  The class valedictorian plans to major in environmental engineering at Lafayette College after graduation. Ms. Gazza’s high school accomplishments include serving as president of the National Honor Society, the Science National Honor Society, and of her class.  She played on the Cardinal Varsity Field Hockey team for her entire high school career.  Ms. Gazza also earned a number of awards and scholarships, including the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award, AP Scholar with Distinction, National Field Hockey Coaches Association Scholar of Distinction, and the Mattioli Scholar Foundation Valedictorian Scholarship.

The valedictorian of West High School’s 2022 class is Andrew Thomas Ritchie.  His parents are Keith Ritchie and Linda St. Cyr of Pocono Lake.  Mr. Ritchie will attend Penn State Abington in the fall, where he expects to major in computer science.  His interests include mathematics and computer science. In his spare time, he loves to write computer programs in Java and Python.  While at West, Mr. Ritchie participated in the Odyssey of the Mind, PA Junior Academy of Science, FTC Robotics, French Honor Society, National Honor Society, and the Evirothon.

Named the Pather’s 2022 salutatorian is Danielle Missey, daughter of David and Gina Missey,  Tobyhanna. Following graduation, Ms. Missey will study accounting and finance at the University of Pittsburgh College of Business Administration. Her interests include baking, which she has turned into a side business along with her job in a local pizzeria.  She also loves to read, write, and take care of her dogs. Her hobbies are hiking with her dogs, tennis, swimming, or just doing handstands. Ms. Missey’s accomplishments include four years as a Panther Varsity Cheerleader, National Honor Society, French Honor Society, and being a mentor to younger students through the Big Panther-Little Panther school initiative.

Ted Nyberg is Pocono Mountain East’s class of 2022 salutatorian. His parents are Jack and Diane Nyberg of Cresco, Pa. He is heading to the University of Virginia where he will study computer science. Mr. Nyberg’s high school accomplishments include excelling on the Cardinal’s Championship Varsity Chess Teams (EPC Champions), and on the links as a member of the Varsity Golf Team.
