Castellanos Suddenly Closes,
Business & Equipment for Sale

MOUNT POCONO – In business for less than a year, Castellanos Family Restaurant in Mount Pocono suddenly closed in late November and has been listed for sale with a local commercial real estate broker.

The popular Italian eatery opened in the former Pizza Hut at the Five Points in Mount Pocono last December. The anticipation was great as Maurice Castellano readied the premises for the opening.

Once opened, the new restaurant received an enthusiastic welcome from the local crowd. Rave reviews popped up daily on local social media pages.

Local commercial real estate broker Michael Baxter listed Castellanos Restaurant for sale in late November.

Then, in late November – less than one month shy of its first anniversary — the restaurant announced on a Friday evening that it would not open due to a lack of staff. It never opened again. Just a couple of days later the business (but not the real estate or the building, which were leased by Mr. Castellano) was listed for sale by Michael Baxter & Associates, a commercial real estate broker in Stroudsburg.

Reached for comment, Mr. Castellano denied that the restaurant was for sale. In social media posts, he said he was moving the restaurant to another location “near” Mount Pocono, with a liquor license.
In communications with us, Mr. Castellano declined to identify the location.

The real estate listing, which is still active, says the restaurant is a “Turnkey operation. Fully staffed and equipped.” At the same time, the restaurant’s commercial kitchen appliances and equipment were posted for sale on Facebook Marketplace by Mr. Castellano.

In late November, the Facebook Marketplace account of the Castellanos owner listed various pieces of commercial restaurant equipment for sale. The listings are no longer active.

Residents have expressed disappointment over the closure and are enthusiastically offering Mr. Castellano their best wishes in locating another space nearby.

Several years ago, Mr. Castellano briefly operated a very popular take-out pizza restaurant in the Pocono Summit area. That also closed suddenly. Reemerging about a year later, Mr. Castellano explained the sudden closure was due to medical issues.

This past September he and his wife also opened “On a Roll,” billed as a New York-style Italian Deli. That is located in Coolbaugh Township, at 970 Sterling Road (Rt196).
