Carbone & Carroll Ousted in Tobyhanna
TTVFC Members Win Primary Nod Over Incumbent Supervisors
Challengers Win by 20-point Landslide Margins
MAY 16 2023
TOBYHANNA TOWNSHIP – Republican voters in Tobyhanna Township have resoundingly rejected incumbents Brendon Carroll and David Carbone.
Signaling a major reason for the change, the winning candidates are officers with the Tobyhanna Township Volunteer Fire Company and have been the face of the volunteer first responders at the contentious board meetings for two years. Company President Edward Turtrone and Chief Troy Counterman trounced the incumbent hopefuls by 20 points. The total votes of the two winners were 792, or 58% of all votes cast. Only 16% of the vote went to each of the incumbents. STR advocate, Michael Camino, a/k/a Miquel Strada, trailed all contenders with less than nine percent of the vote.
The unofficial tally, which does not include provisional ballots cast today, or military ballots not due until next week, was reported by the county voter services department as follows:
SUPERVISOR 19 (REP) (Vote for 2), 2285 registered voters, turnout 32.12%
CARROLL, BRENDON J E 220 16.25%
CAMINO, MICHAEL 113 8.35%
(W) TUTRONE, EDWARD 420 31.02%
(W) COUNTERMAN, TROY 372 27.47%
CARBONE, DAVID 218 16.10%
Write-in 11 0.81%
On the Democratic side, Ted Wolski was the sole registered candidate, receiving 420 votes. With two seats on the ballot, it looks like a write-in candidate will take the second Democratic slot – there were over 130 write-in votes cast in the election. Those winners have not yet been identified.
SUPERVISOR 19 (DEM) (Vote for 2), 2415 registered voters, turnout 23.19%
(W) WOLSKI, TED 420 72.16%
(W) Write-in 105 18.04%
Write-in 57 9.79%
